ABOUT ME

My name is Mariah (Mari for short). I am a native English speaker from the USA and have been living in the Bahamas since 2011. I started learning Spanish at a young age and spent the past few years living part-time in Mexico where I was able to progress my speaking abilities. I started learning Italian in April 2024 and am looking forward to traveling to Italy soon. Being a language learner myself, I can relate to how difficult the journey is, so I am supportive and understanding of the challenges involved when learning a new language.

as a teacher

Teaching comes naturally to me. Many years ago I was a ski instructor, and I have been a yoga teacher for the past 6 years. When I was in Mexico in 2023 and early 2024, I started and led a casual intercambio language group for native Spanish speakers to connect and practice with native English speakers. I love working with Spanish and Italian speaking students, but I appreciate connecting with English language learners from all over the world.

lessons & teaching style

Getting comfortable with everyday conversation will be the focus. We can practice speaking, reading together, working on pronunciation, focusing on vocabulary expansion, and working on getting past fears of speaking by practicing together. As a writer, I also have a strong understanding of English grammar so I can assist you with any grammar questions you might have.
